Mar. 7--SEWICKLEY -- The new progressive-care unit at Sewickley Valley Hospital is high-tech enough that the beds automatically weigh the patients, but homey enough to have colors chosen for their calming effect.
The unit is for patients in those in-between stages, too. Progressive-care patients are typically older and suffer from a number of ailments, including diabetes or congestive heart failure. They're not sick enough for intensive care, but still need treatment that's a step beyond a standard medical unit.
The $2.2 million, 14-room, 23-bed unit will open to patients Thursday. It's part of $20 million in capital …
