Vic: No train delays expected from today's stop-work meetings
MELBOURNE, Dec 13 AAP - No disruptions to Victoria's suburban train services are expected
today despite the public transport union calling stop-work meetings over planned job cuts.
Rail, Tram and Bus Union Victorian secretary Trevor Dobbyn said workers will hold stop-work
meetings today and tomorrow to inform members of train operator Connex's plans to cut
costs, which could include the axing of almost 100 jobs.
"Stop-work meetings will be staggered through-out the day so there should be no disruptions
to train services today. It's too close to Christmas for that," Mr Dobbyn said.
The union has called on the Victorian government to intervene.
Earlier this week, Connex revealed plans to cut costs after it was reported the company
was expecting an earnings shortfall of $70 million in the next three years.
Connex has blamed fare evaders, the GST and ongoing ticket machine problems for its
financial problems.
The French-owned company operates the Glen Waverley, Lilydale, Belgrave, Epping, Alamein
and Hurtsbridge lines.
